Key Infrastructure Projects Advancing Under CM Eknath Shinde’s Government In Maharashtra

Dharavi Redevelopment Project

This is one of the world’s largest urban renewal projects, aimed at transforming Asia’s largest slum into a modern urban hub.

Objective:

 To rehabilitate approximately one million residents and provide them with modern amenities.

Key Features:

Eligible residents will be provided with free homes measuring 350 square feet.

The project has been divided into 5 sectors. The construction of 10,000 flats in Mahim is expected to be completed within 3 years.

The project will include schools, hospitals, parks, and business hubs.

Cost and Timeline:

The estimated cost of the project is approximately ₹95,790 crore. Construction commenced on January 14, 2025, with a target completion date of 2032.

Partnership: This is a joint venture between the Government of Maharashtra and the Adani Group, now known as

‘Navbharat Mega Developers Private Limited’. Thane Cluster Development

This is an ambitious scheme aimed at resolving the issue of old and dilapidated buildings in Thane.

Objective:

To redevelop unplanned settlements and dilapidated structures into organized ‘clusters’ (groups).

Benefits: Under this scheme, residents will gain access to modern townships, wider roads, and improved civic amenities. It focuses on providing residents with a safe and elevated standard of living.

Virar-Alibaug Multi-Modal Corridor

This project is a massive expressway and transportation corridor connecting the districts of Palghar, Thane, and Raigad.

Length: It has a total length of approximately 126 km.

Features: It will be an 8-to-14-lane expressway, designed to facilitate speeds of up to 120 km/h.

Advantage: This will reduce travel time between Virar and Alibaug from several hours to approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.

Cost: The estimated cost of this project ranges from approximately ₹55,000 crore to ₹66,000 crore.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train

This is India’s first high-speed rail project, being developed in collaboration with Japan.

Speed ​​and Travel Time:

The train will have a maximum speed of 320 km/h, enabling the distance between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to be covered in just 2 hours and 7 minutes.

Key Milestone:

21 km Tunnel: A 21-km-long tunnel is being constructed between Mumbai and Thane, 7 km of which will run beneath the seabed.

As of April 2026, 5 km of this tunnel excavation has been completed.

Stations and Route: The route will comprise a total of 12 stations. Construction work is progressing rapidly at stations such as Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, and Surat.

Trials: Trial runs are expected to commence in Gujarat by August 2027.

  1. Agriculture and Rural Development

Namo Shetkari Maha-Samman Nidhi:

Modeled after the PM-KISAN scheme, a decision was taken to provide additional annual assistance of ₹6,000 to farmers in Maharashtra.

Crop Insurance for ₹1:

To alleviate the financial burden on farmers, crop insurance coverage has been made available at a premium of just ₹1.

APMC Voting Rights:

Farmers’ right to vote directly in Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMCs) has been restored.

Chief Minister Shinde has presented his governance model as a “Government for the Common Man,” claiming to have taken 72 major decisions within just three months.
