The Shiv Sena, led by Eknath Shinde, is a prominent and crucial component of Maharashtra’s Mahayuti alliance. As of the latest status update on April 4, 2026, the details of their participation within the alliance are as follows:

Current Status of the Alliance

Key Constituents:

The Mahayuti alliance primarily comprises the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Role in Government:

Eknath Shinde currently serves as the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. The alliance government is led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Electoral Performance and Participation

Legislative Assembly (2024): Out of 288 seats, Shinde’s Shiv Sena won 57 seats, while the BJP secured 132 seats and the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) obtained 41 seats.

Local Body Elections (2026):

In the recently concluded Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, the Mahayuti alliance has secured a majority. **Seat Distribution:**

In the BMC elections, the BJP contested 137 seats, while Shinde’s Shiv Sena contested 90 seats.

**Organizational Strengthening:**

Eknath Shinde is continuously strengthening his party’s organizational structure and appointing new “Sampark Pramukhs” (liaison chiefs) across the state to ensure the party maintains a strong foothold ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Eknath Shinde has made it clear that the primary objective of the ‘Mahayuti’ (Grand Alliance) is development, and any differences that may arise regarding seat distribution or other issues are resolved through mutual dialogue.
